Chitterlings for The Holidays
Directions
Meso Makes Chitterlings for The Holidays. Love them or hate them many people traditionally eat them somewhere during the holiday season.
Thaw chitterlings thoroughly and place in sink or some other container with access to plenty running water. Clean chitterlings by pulling off the membrane and all trash then discard into a trash receptacle. Continue this process until all chitterlings have been cleaned. Fill sink with water and repeat process at least 3 times. Pay very close attention to the edges of chitterling; looking for very small pieces and specks of trash. After 3 or 4 thorough washings chitterlings are ready to be cooked. Place chitterlings in pot (can use slow cooker as well). No additional water needs to be added because they are already full of water and will make enough liquid to cook. Cook on medium to medium high. After about an hour of cooking add the seasoning. (you can add some of your other favorite seasonings if you wish). Cook a total of 3 to 4 hours on medium heat. Chitterlings should be tender and not chewy at all. Serve with your favorite sides and please don’t omit the hot sauce on top! Enjoy!
