Of course, my name at birth was not Meso but in March of 2015 that’s who I became. I had been watching YouTube since 2005. I had seen some cooking shows but I didn’t see anyone like me; an older, super cool chick teaching, cooking, and having fun in the kitchen. (lol okay maybe just an older chick having fun in the kitchen). I didn’t see anyone doing my kind of cooking with my kind of flavor, either. What I saw was otherwise, wonderful cooks boiling cabbage in buttered water and calling it “FRIED CABBAGE,” some were saying fried corn but using canned corn (impossible true fried corn must be made from fresh corn), and the last straw was someone trying to make cracklin’ bread using bagged store-bought pork rinds ………… Nooooooooooo Stop It! I had to do something …… I had to throw my hat in the ring. I decided that I would start my own channel to express my personality and style of cooking. I had all the support I could ever need from my family, other loved ones and friends. So, I shakily and nervously launched my channel and my first video and Meso was born.
Traditionally, southern and soul food dishes are remarkably simple and made with skillful, loving hands from the hearts and souls of the cook. I’m not fancy, fluffy, frilly or foo foo! My cooking is rustic and unapologetically homemade. I don’t do hard, run to 5 or 6 stores trying to pick up 25 obscure ingredients. I don’t like to have to babysit any dish on the stove. I like to get in and get out, honey. I have tweaked some of my grandma’s traditional recipes and perfected mine to be able to offer you the finest in southern cuisine. If I make a video of an awesomely delicious dish but you cannot walk away and easily duplicate it then I have not done what I came here to do. I want to teach you my easy techniques and style of cooking to help you become a kitchen rockstar. It’s not so much about the recipe as it is the technique and style. What I am looking for in every recipe is QUICK, EASY, SIM – POLE (yeah, I know the word is simple but that ain’t how I say it) and DELICIOUS! Let’s do it Kitchen Krew!
Meso has been married to the big ole daddy for 42 years and we have 1 son, 1 daughter and 1 bonus daughter. From those kiddos we have 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. I am blessed to have many other family, lifelong friends, new friends, and other loved ones. I have been cooking for 50 years and I try to pass along to you what has taken me 50 years to learn. I pay tribute to and am inspired by all the great cooks gone before me. I use recipes and techniques that I’ve picked up from all the many great cooks I have encountered that could rival the best chefs of any day for flavor and taste. Kitchen Rockstars …… they truly are.
